II for the [snowy] road

Some guy in the next building down from my wife at Goddard Space Flight Center drives a red Series II E-type coupe.

Wednesday afternoon, I see him pull onto the highway as I go by, the Jag seriously encrusted in snow due to the dreadful weather we're having again. As he passes, I buzz down the window on the Miata and give him a thumbs-up, he waves back.

Serious Brit-car enthusiasm to drive in this muck, my LBC sits warm at home in the garage.

I have a Brit Car Enthusiasm story, too.

First, some quick background. I live in a small, semi-rural timber/logging/mill community where Brit cars of any kind are a rarity. Before owning my Jags (presently an XJ6 and an XJS) I had an MG Midget and an MBG/GT.

One day, tooling along in my ratty and not-yet-refurbished B/GT I saw in the distance a glint of red and chrome approaching around a sweeping bend. As our distance shrunk I could see that I was about to meet up with an Aston Martin DB5...and a **** nice one at that. Now, seeing ANY DB5 out on the road is very unusual. Seeing one in this neck o'the woods is a miracle !

Anyhow, as he approached me from the opposite direction, he put his arm out the window and gave ME, in my raggedy MGB, a "thumbs up" !

Now THAT's what I call Brit car comraderie !

Cool....

Cheers
Doug Dwyer
