Ignition wires and radio noise

I had a loud poping noise coming through my speakers. It was worse on FM than AM but I could also hear it a little bit when I played a CD. It was a random poping noise so I thought it was related to the operation of the voltage regulator and not the ignition. To make a long story short, it was the ignition wires. I had stranded wire cables, ( napa ). The car ran very well using those wires but I had the noise in my radio. I installed a set of Magnecor ignition wires and the noise is 100% gone ! The car is running just as good as with the napa wires. An unexpected benifit from the magnecore wires is that the tachometer seems to be more accurate than before. I guess the new wires changed the amount of current going through the primary side of the coil and thus a difference in the operation of the tach.
While I was at it, I checked the overal ignition timing at maximum advance per Dave's recommendation and found it was a couple of degrees over the 35 maximum. I adjusted it back to 35 maximum. I cannot tell any difference but Dave says it will wear out your engine if it is advanced too far.
