i have 1975 midget 1500. the ignition sw is gone and would like to replace same.i would like to just replace the sw..
my question before a start can i just take out the sw or do you have to replace the complete assy. once you take the heads off the 2 studs or can you replace the studs with bolts to put it back.

Hi, 6773. :p The 1500s share the same lock mechanism as the MGB, with an electrical switch (on the far left side), a lock barrel / steering lock assembly bolted to the column using tamper-proof bolts, and the lock tumbler itself.

They can all be replaced; which part of yours is missing?

the tamper proof bolts is what was causing me concern where do you get them and can they be replaced are they threaded.
the sw itself does not work. i would like to take it out and check it the tamper proof bolts was my concern
thanks
jack

The tamper-proof bolts can be replaced with alan-head screws, for ease of replacement. To remove them, you may need to take a dremel (or hacksaw) and cut a groove into the head, so you can then use a flathead screwdriver on them.

Mine's still apart... I can take any pictures you might need.

Best,
Duncan
