ignition problem

when the key is turned nothing happens. no clicking , no crank at all . i've got a new solenoid. the coil and dissy are old and questionable

the engine cranks when we jumped the solenoid with a screw driver but didn't start
any suggestions where to look first

In your tool box for a volt ohm meter of course, smirk.

Obviously juice is not going to the switch or going through the switch, check it out.
 
If we knew what year/model we were trying to diagnosis we might be of some help.
 
You need to check if you are getting power to the solenoid from the red/white wire (from the ignition key), but first run a jumper wire fron the battery to the little red/white wire on the solenoid- if it works then you probably have the per/white wire disconnected at the key.
