Leaking gas from a sending unit or a union that will not tighten, you can take a bar of Octogon Soap, shave it into small pieces with a pocket knife, file, or whatever you can find, and pack the pieces around the the point of the leak. The gas and soap will form a paste and will seal the leak.

I learned this while transporting a new MGB from Charleston. Gas was leaking from the tank sending unit. Old guy at a service station in Monks Corner, SC told me about it and IT WORKED.
