TR2/3/3A Identifying a TR4 A Overdrive

Take a look at the info in this link, should help figure out what specific overdrive you are looking at:

Just pulling stuff from memory, there is sn# on the left side above clutch rod. Prefix of CT should tell you its a TR4. Look for a squared shaped driveshaft coupling and a cylinder shaped bulge on the left side of trans as well. An early TR2/3 non sycn trans will have flat surface on left side. Post us a picture of it if you have any doubts.

There is a chart in the Moss TR2-4 catalog, for TR2-4 OD. ISTR we've discussed that the leading digit is not always correct though, so perhaps you should only look at the last 4.
As it implies, though, all TR3 through solid axle 4A were functionally identical. The change during the TR4 run was just some internal parts, like rubber O-rings for the operating pistons instead of the earlier cast iron rings.
IRS TR4A got the small bore accumulator, to soften engagement.
