TR2/3/3A Identify bracket on TR3

Can anyone help identify what this is on the lower left inner fender on my TR3? It looks like some sort of small round bracket. As far as I know there was nothing attached to it. Does anybody who has taken the front of ther TR3 off know what it is?

Rich - I've never seen anything like that before. Is it tubular ? Is seems to be welded to the inside of the inner wing where the triangle box structure is on the other side. Does it go straight through ? Is it only on the RHS ? what about the LHS ? Maybe someone welded it there to mount some flame-thowers when they used to do night rallies with your TR in an earlier life ?

It is tubular and had the remants of something in it, didn't get the chance to tell what it was but it was only on th left side.

Run the radiator overflow hose through it.
Thanks Stig, That's what it's for the radiator over flow tube. I'll let Erik know when he put's th car back together. Erik had another TR3A right next to min that had the front apron off and it didn't have one of these.

Hi Rich,

Isn't that where the thingamejig attaches to the watchamacallit ?.

After many TR's, I've never seen that fitting before....probably some PO's deft work. A good chance it's for something that couldn't go on the steering box side...but space is still pretty tight on the pass side too. Louder horns were popular to warn of approaching at speed. Perhaps an early radar detector. If it were local, maybe a "roo" scarer...sort of a whistle thing for clearing the wildlife.

All sorts of strange things were fitted over the years...we have a 3A that was tried by the Highway Patrol and it had a siren mounted behind the grille. That car's now been restored and the siren's back in the same drill holes, and all wired up to create havoc again.

Regards,

Viv.

I think it might be for the whochamawhatsis...

I was looking at some old posts and found it in a pic in TR3sharon's thread about her TR3A's leaky steering box. In the pic of her TR3 with front apron off it can be seen with the hose still attached.

Well I'll be danged. That must be a post 60,000 feature. My '59 doesn't have it. All those previous TRs had to make do with the overflow hose just dangling down, pointed at the ground. Some engineer didn't have enough to do, I guess.

Thanks for posting those pics, they were very helpful. It’s really pretty good to see pics of these cars in various states of disassembly/reassembly.

I've thought that it might be good to have a reference section just for pics of cars that are partially dissembled. They would make very good reference material to see the details of the way components are supposed to be correctly assembled on the cars. Another good example is the pics that were posted in response to my request for info how the front sway attaches on a TR3. Those pics and the install descriptions pretty much illustrate everything I need to know about where and how to install the sway bar.

My '58 (or '59 or whatever it might be registered as next) had a little clip to hold the over flow hose. It fit into a small hole about where your watchamacallit is attached. The only reason I know about it, is because a local club member stopped by one day to see my progress (or lack there of) and made such a big deal about finding 'an original part' on the car that I gave it to him.

I like looking at my car all striped down, but already I'm forgetting how things should go back together. It's funny that parts seem like they can only go back together one way, but when it's time, there is many more than one way to get it wrong.
