While I was out in the garage working on the GT this afternoon, my buddy from across the street came over to chat. Then, he preceded to tell me about the new folks down the street, moved in during the summer. I never met them but I knew he had a project car in his garage but never saw him working on it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif
Anyway, seems this new neibour also has three snowmobiles and is pinched for room, so he asked my neibour "Do you think the guy up the street who is working on the MG's would be looking for another project?"
So.. seems he has a 1969 VW Super Beetle on a regular Beetle frame. Has everything, engine runs, wide tires on the back, new floors etc. He also has all the parts for it including new brakes. I asked what he would be wanting for it and was he said he just needs the room, he will take pretty well any offer if you want it. He is impressed with the work I have done on the GT apparently.

OH OH!!

What should I do?
Should I surprise my Wife when she gets back from Nova Scotia on Tuesday?? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I wish he hadn't come over.

So, let me get this straight, your asking a bunch of gearheads if you should get another project car! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

I did that with a Bright Orange '78 TR7 parts car a couple years ago.
I was a born-again virgin for several weeks after that, if you know what I mean. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

How'd he put a Super Beetle body on a regular Beetle chassis? I thought they had different wheelbases?.. But I'm not a VW expert, so I might be way off.
Oh yea, we were talking about getting this thing....
Don't ask me, I've already resorted to storing junkers at my friends shop.
I have NO willpower......
Get it! Get it! Get it!!!! I love old air-cooled VWs

I'm kinda with you on that, Banjo

Wait a minute. Didn't the Super Beetle come out in '71?
Curved windshield, MacPherson struts, etc?
If I'm right, it'd be awfully hard to have a '69, now, wouldn't it.
Jeff

Maybe the regular beetle frame is a `69??

Either way, an old cheap car is an old cheap car, how could you resist. Plus, it's Christmas....give it to one of the kids or something - wives can never say no to that move.

I thought VW's were unibody.

Kinda sorta - they have a floor pan. Jeff's right - I'm not sure the Super Beetle body would fit a standard floor pan. I believe the front end is a tad wider. More likely a title snafu, or mistake on the owner's part.

Mickey

front guards and bonnet are different, will fit
have a bug with independant susp all round, and will even have disks all round if i can be bothered is a bonding of two diff chassis tho
