I know we've had this conversation before and I know the spline is different but my steering wheel is a POC - both badly tarnished and the foam outside is really rough. I don't currently have the budget to replace it with a Momo or a LeCarra - though I REALLY love the wood wheel, I also like the late 60's banjo look

Those are cool wheels! That's the same one I'm fitting in my Bugeye, fortunately for me the spines match up. Sorry, I don't know of a solution for your '76.
 
a buddy of mine gave me a wood rim
I sanded it up, poly urathainded it drilled holes for the bolts
in stalled it. and then reailsed I coulnt put the horn on!!
so off it came again

Mine will have the same issue. A bugeye would have had a horn push in the middle of the wheel, however, the '68 spridget would have had the horn on the stalk, so I'll have to rig something up. Maybe a button under the dash or something. But I REALLY like that wheel, so I won't let that stand in my way.
 
John, I had that problem with my BE also! I would suggest a push-button switch on the dash at about 2 o'clock to the steering wheel! That's just a short index finger stretch away when needed!! :wink:

has anyone had success drilling and installing a wheel on the existing hub? or do you need the adapter?

Good idea!
 
I was able to machine the existing hub to accept a aluminum spacer that was machined to accept a Momo style wheel. It was a lot of fooling around but came out perfect. I still had to order the horn push from Moss.
 
JP for the later wheel from the '72 Midget you should be able to fit that wheel if you had the matching original hub for it. The earlier banjo style wheel won't fit the splines on your late steering column.
