I hadn't realized the lens Barnack chose initially was a 50mm.
And liked the article's admission that (emphasis mine):
"While the vintage Leicas are popular among collectors, the newer models have been favored by many celebrities, including actor Brad Pitt and singer Seal, as a status symbol in recent years."
Looked on B&H and the Leica Q2 sells for $5795! OR - you can buy the Leica Q2 Monochrome version for "only" $400 more - or $6195! So the Monochrome version is the same as the regular Q2 but it does not have a color array or low pass filter. So the discriminating Hollywood type can get a camera that only takes B&W, has less parts, is cheaper to make, and yet pay more for it! I'll bet the status seekers are lining up for that one!
Look at the comparison reviews (YouTube) between the 6K Leica Q2 and the $1400 FujiFilm X100V (which I've been eyeing for some time now).
You know we're big fans of Fuji here, have owned their fixed-zoom "FinePix" point-n-shoot S-series cameras for decades. Mitsy shot this image with her S2000 ("only" 10MP) a while back, and this is cropped to about half the original's frame. The X100V should be all the camera needed for some amazing stuff. No reason to need that "Red Dot" camera!
When she got the first one, a FinePix S3100, 4MP and a 6x zoom I was surprised at the results. When it finally gave up, she got the S2000 and continued with that until a couple years ago. The units are really remarkable for just about any general photography. I've since gotten back into the fray, got us both Nikon D7500 bodies and her a group of overlapping focal length zoom lenses. She's a happy gal.
Basil's a Canon DSLR shooter, the Fuji will be an augment (and a superb one at that) to his system cameras.
