MGB I think I found the Cause

The transmission was hard to get into any gear.
FINALLY got around to working on it ('67 GT).Drained the transmission,
and found this -

Anyone know where that SHOULD go?
 
It looks like one of the screws and jam nuts used to hold a shift fork to a selector rod in the gearbox.
 
I'm going to pull the engine/transmission,& install a low mileage
one I brought with me.
 
you might want to repair it. partly because if you don't you will forget what the bolt is for and loose it - oh wait, that is me.

also, sounds like a relatively easy fix and then you are back on the road.
