over at a buds house who is restoring a 1971 Fiat 850 Spider. This is the fella who has the nice shop that lets me use the goodies.

It is now ready to go off to the media blaster and the chrome is all back. Engine and tranny are out at rebuilders.

Many little parts he needs and decided they were not available until I showed him how to use the internet to search for them.

Now he does not have so many things missing.

I bought an yellow/orange Fiat 850 Spider new in Germany in 1969 for $1300. Drove it around Germany for two years then brought it home. Got $1600 trading on a BMW 2002 in 1972. It was a hoot to have the Fiat in Germany!

Drove it to Nurburgring to the Formula One race. On the way back I was driving on the Autobahn in the left lane at about 120 kph. In my rear view mirror way in the distance I saw headlights flash. I casually swithed to the right lane. About the time I got there, a yellow wankel powered Mercedes C111 passed me like I was standing still. Remember that like it was yesterday.

My brother bought an 850 Fiat from a guy and it had a hole in the top about the size of a dime. I was about 12 and I asked the guy that sold him the car what the hole came from. He said "an arrow of course"

I helped my brother-in-law get one on the road many years ago! My main memory was of lots of rust, fiberglas and bondo and a very anemic engine that wanted to rev a lot but not offer very much power!
