Yes...I said USED. New stuff just wouldn't match the patina of my TR2. I COULD buy new and sand them and paint 'em but I'd rather not spend the bucks for new shiny stuff.

So...If you have one, two, two dozen old TR2/3 hood/trunk (AKA boot/bonnet) hinges that are complete and working let me know via this post or PM.

Thank you for your support.

I believe I may have an old pair of bonnet and boot hinges around. I'll crawl up in the loft tommorrow and check. I'll send you a PM if I come up with anything.

Other then the TR2 hinges being painted body color, are they different then the TR3A (from TS236xx) hinges I'll be looking for??

There was a difference in that some had little buttons on them that acted as stops, where some diden't. But I can't remember which was early and which was late. they were fully interchangable anyway so It's really a mute point unless your a judge at Pebble Beach.
Yankee. Moss does sell unplated hinges for TR2s, and they are a bit cheaper than the plated ones. But I understand your thought as I'm in the same position. I need hinges soon for panal test fitting before I pull the body off the frame, so they're probably gonna be in my next order.

Here's a pic of both types that Banjo mentioned:

I, too, would like to know if the button's for the hood or trunk lid.... just don't remember anymore....

I replaced these w/ some TRF hinges. The chrome has held up over 3 years, but the threads into the hinge bodies was poor...

Hi Folks;

Just passing thru and curious Myself as I had a `58 TR3A & Probably will have (Soon) a Project to Play with!

According to the "Orig Triumph TR2/3/3A" by Bill Piggot; It says: The Bonnet & Boot hinges were painted up to "TS7228"; Chromed thereafter: They were Mfg RH & LH (don`t put these on in the wrong way; They`ll Crack & Break):

On one of the TR2 pics; It shows the "pip" (Button Stop) on the Boot but No Description & No mention relative to the Bonnet: Sorry; This is the Best I came up with! I just educated Myself a bit anyway!

Have Fun;

Regards, Russ

All of my hinges on my TR2 are broken so I think they were installed incorrectly.

I must admit that I've never seen the 'button' type...or I've just not noticed. I'll take a look at all four of my early TR's and see if I can find one with the button-type.

Banjo, I guess I never know Moss sold unplated hinges..I've only seen them at Rimmer Bros. Thanks

Moss part 802-868 hood hinge pair, unplated
Moss part 802-898 trunk hinge pair, unchromed
(as it appears in the catalog)
I actually stumbled on that while trying to find info on the button thing. Exactly what Mrv8q posted the pic of.
I remembered seeing both types, but can't remember which went to which.
Moss also indicates TS7228 as the cutoff for painted hinges.
So TS 5012 is getting painted ones.
Yankee, What are you doing for beading? That was also painted on the TR2s. and the original was a color-matched vinyl. I still have a few pieces of the original Geranium beading from mine.
I got a good deal on a stainless set from a local guy And I figure I'll find some primer that'll allow me to paint it.
I thought that would be a better way to go than trying to find and paint the vinyl type. And it would allow me to remove the arpon without destroying the beading if I ever have to.

I took a good look at my TR2 boot hinges and they are not broken...I was thinking of my TR3A. AND they have the little 'button' on them...first time I've seen this.

Banjo...I think I'm going to use early Ford wing bead. I do have to take a closer look at it but it's typically a rubber or fabric style...I'll check it our and give you my opinion.

Unless they have changed in the last few years, the ones I have purchased are made out of potmetal. YES fragile as he** especialy where the mounting bolts are concerned. {strip out VERY easily} And YES mount em on the wrong side and there gonna break NO doubt about it! The ones on my 56 had the buttons on both front and rear when I rescued it from the disassembly monster. Of course they were all in sad shape Broken, stripped out and what not. I have sence went through two complete sets {they seem to get "unservicable" for one reason or another. The NEW ones I recieved from Moss have no buttons. Concourse judges might cringe, but then im not building my TR to try to appease them.
