a 12mm x 1.25 tap to "adjust" the threads on my 45 yr. old MG Mitten shift knob so it will fit the Toyo 5-speed I put in my restoration SP.250. Haven't found a source around here. Since this is a 1-time use, would love to borrow one, paying postage of course.

Anyone??

Not a very common pitch, I'm afraid. Not in any of the sets I looked at. But MMC has them.

Steve- I would think so, I tested the Toyo knob to get the correct size with a 12x1.25 bolt in the drawer at Loews today. If you can lend yours, send me a PM & I'll send mailing info.

I just got home and checked the tap sets. Of the three 12mm types, 1.25 is the only one I don't have. I could have sworn I had one. Sorry! If you need 1.5 or 1.75 let me know. Can't remember the last time I used them.

Dale, if you're stumped I can look up here - Canada being metric might find one - then you would need to purchase but purchasing would likely approach the cost of return shipping anyway.

OR do you know a machine shop that you could just bring in the knob and have it done? likely quicker and cheaper than anything we could arrange on this board.

Dale, is the shift lever on the Toyota box chromed? If not then instead of modifying that MG Mitten (now that brings back memories of Sports Car Graphic magazine and such) knob and just have the correct size bolt that matchs the knob welded to the Toyota shift lever. I've done that for a couple of shift levers on T5 installations to match MG knobs and it worked fine.

Bill- that's a thought. Our concern is how far down the stick to cut. My restorer has never modified a Toyo stick & he was afraid it might be hollow and not suitable for welding. I got this one from someone on the BCF, they are no longer available from Toyo. A local machine shop may be where I end up.

Edit- I've checked on fleabay and it looks like under 10 dollars incl. shipping. Might as well have one to call my own. Many thanks to all who replied.
