I know they're small, but...

I was walking back to my garage this morning before going to work and this sight made me go grab my camera. My Hyundai Accent is one of the smaller cars on the US market these days, and it towers over the Tunebug.

Folks are amazed when I desribe how big mine is, and that a Saturn is huge compared to it. I had to laugh when the guy who helped me pick it up said it had to be less than 7 feet wide to fit on his trailer. Let's see, 4.5 feet to the tips of the mirrors? I think it will make it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

And a Bugeye makes other Sprites and Midgets look big.

I always say that it is a lil bigger then the size of my desk and get that puzzled look.

But when you think about it (counting ceiling tile)with the return it is 6' by 8'. Shave about 2 off the 6 and you have it.

I gotta get out more. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/computer.gif

I'm waiting the day I finally can dive the Tunebug to work. One of my friends here drives an F-350 (V10) truck sometimes. Enormous. The Bugeye would look like a lifeboat for it!

Another thought on the smallness--even as small as it is, there is still decent room for 2 people and their stuff. Sure, I realize the modern safety stuff adds size and weight, but really, to get yourself around, what more do you need?

Just think how much safer the roads would be if everyone drove Sprites. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Funny you should mention an F-350! I have an F-350 (V10) along with my two racing Midgets and a street Midget. The size of the F-350 really jumps out at me every time it is sitting in the driveway and I pull in with the Midget. Seems like my head barely clears the tops of the tires on the truck!

And on the race track, Miatas look huge let alone an RX-7. Corvettes, Mustangs, and Camaros look like military tanks!

BTW, during the summer I drive the street Midget 75 miles round trip to work. About 55 miles is on some of Detroit's major metropolitan freeways and surface streets. Only been scared a couple of times...

Have a great day!

Tim

Not that it's exactly on topic, but this thread reminds me of a time many years ago when both my sister's Honda 600 Coupe and her then-husband's 1949 Hudson Commordore 8 were parked in my driveway. Meanwhile, I continue to be amazed how big Honda Civics seem to have gotten since my 1995 CX Hatchback, but then I compare it to the Honda 600 (different one) in my barn....

And the LBC's are the most reliable!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Do the Midgets fit in the F-350's bed?

Actually I had friend haul one in his 250 using some trailer ramps to keep clearance around the wheel wells, and the tailgate down of course. He would have put it on the trailer, but he already had two on it. This women stopped him while he was hauling them and wanted to know if he wanted another. He bought it on the spot ($200). Probably wasn't the safest thing he had ever done, but he is known for his wrecklessness.

On two different occasions I have hauled Midgets in the back of my F-150. Both times they were stripped down chassis which we loaded by hand. Last time there was just my brother-in-law and i, we each grabbed a side, lifted and slid it in!!

more like they make Beatles look like an SUV. my wifes uncle has a 72, and I was amazed at how much it dwarfs my 70 midget.

My first roller, Bugeye, back in '76 was delivered in the back of a standard pick up.

When we went to get Jerri's late mother's Bug with my purpose built MG trailer, it was larger than the Midgets I haul & appeared to be a lttle larger than the B's...I know because of where the tires sit & how much overhang there is....& it was definitely heavier.

Makes only too much sense...
All I can do is think of the high hedged, narrow roads in Wiltshire, UK (where I'm from) to understand why they are so small!

I dont care how often I go home, those roads get more narrow every time!

As we get older they shrink the shoulders... in the middle of the night.... secretly.

Where I live, the shoulders are shrinking all by themselves ... and no one is really too concerned about it in the DOT /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
