I know,I know, But, Valvolines own report on V-R1

Reading an article directly from Valvoline, there seems to be a misconception about V-R1 being high in ZDDP. Valvoline states that V-R1 meets todays specifications for modern vehicles and has a limited amount of ZDDP in it. To get a high percentage of ZDDP, you must use their conventional Racing oil, which is not the same. The conventional racing oils are not recommended for street vehicles as they don't meet governmental standards for catalytic converters. They are designed for, among other things, flat tappet engines with higher valve spring pressures, as in racing engines and cam protection. It's expensive, but I just thought I'd throw that out there. PJ

I'm sitting less than a foot from the same bottle pictured in Paul's post... It's th' "stuff".

I looked at their web site, and unfortunately they don't provide this information specifically. Some makers do. The ZDDP concentration probably varies with product and, believe it or not, viscosity. The oils with higher viscosity indices often have higher ZDDP concentration, as they are intended for older cars, which do not have catalytic converters. This is the case for Chevron Supreme, which I use--the 20W-50 oil is (if I remember correcty) 0.12% Zn, which is as high as was normal in the old days, while the 5W-30 is 0.08% (still not bad). This is true of many Mobil oils, too.

I wouldn't get racing oil for street use. It's just not intended for that. ZDDP isn't the only issue, and frankly, in my opinion, people are far too concerned with it. It makes no sense to focus on it so greatly that you use an oil that is totally inappropriate in other respects.
