I just bought a MK I Midget

I saw an ad a few days ago for:

1964 MG Midget $500.00

I called and asked whether it had roll up windows, he said "No".
Does it have door handles? "No".
Does it have wing windows? "No".

What does it have?

The soft top & bows, the side curtains, the hard top, the only rust is in the floorboards.

Well today someone bought my MGC-GT so feeling like I just needed another LBC in my life I went and looked at the little Midget.

It has seats that look like they could have fit right in a Bugeye, an original steering wheel but with some cracks :frown: , a good windshield, a nice hard top (needs a little work), a pair of NOS Side Curtains with original rubber in tact and in good condition!!, a 948 motor dual SU carbs, etc...

Yes - I bought it. Now I have to get it home!!!

This is going to be fun!

Cool. Are you sure it isn't a 1098, that'd be correct for a '64. Wire wheels or steel? Pictures man, pictures. Hard top alone is probably worth $500. '64 would have door handles and quarter lights too I think. Must be a '63 (best year for the Midget, no bias.

The split was somewhere in mid'64 for the door handles. The early '64 would have disk brakes and an 1100 the late '64 would have door handles too.

This is the smallest motor I've seen since looking at the 948 in my Sprite.
Gotta be a 948. Tiny!

I'm thinking this car is earlier than the PO thought.
The seats look like the very early type.

Stupidly I didn't think of my cell camera when I was there, I was just all over that car looking at all the goodies. Going to have to wait a week until I get it home I'm afraid.

I thought front drums where done by '62 already, so I'd assume all '64 would have them. 1098 came in in '63 too I think, so anything '63 through '66 would have had a 1098? '64 supposedly got the different rear springs too I think, not sure when that changed over. What's the VIN?

Don't know the vin yet, gave him money down & will get the title when I show up to tow it home.

Rare one that doesn't need to be parted out unless it's too rusty to restore, IMO.

But, if it has a factory hardtop you don't work, I could use one for my '63......

I could use one for my MK II Sprite.

I'll have to figure out which top it is - pictures will be coming.

Does MkII Sprite have windows or is it the same as my MkI Midget w/side curtains?

Same as MK 1 Midget.
(and I have a set of BRAND new old stock side curtains!!)

Rick, the 948 and 1098 look identical. Look at the engine number tag if it's still there. They switched from the 948 to the 1098 in Oct 62 and to the MK 2 in March 64. To tell the year for sure, you will have to check the car number. Mine is titled as a 64, but it was made in Jan 63, No GAN2L18259. The diaparity is because it wasn't sold until March 64.

If this keeps up we are going to have to start our owne Sprite II/Midget I page!

heheheh... gotta love it!!

I will be able to give a lot more details once I get the car home.
