Last summer, I was looking to fix or replace my TR6 seats.

A forum member named Ab Crevoiserat had installed Jeep seats in his TR6, so I decided to do it as well.

It took me much longer to get around to this project as some family issues arose, but I finally got it done last weekend.

Looks great, and here are some pictures:

I had to disassemble the seat backs in order for the convertible top to clear. This was kinda a PITA. I had a local shop do the cutting and welding.

Some fabrication was needed to have the Jeep seat fit the stock TR6 seat mounts. I used a piece of angle iron and put some holes in it. Worked great.

Hi,

Those look very good. I'm looking to replace my seats and have been looking for miata ones for some time, but haven't come across any yet. Maybe a set like these will work for me.

When you say dissasemble, do you mean that the back needed to be notched like you show in the picture to get the top to go up and down? Or was it that they interefered with the top when it was up (bulged out)?

The seats had to be 'notched' to clear the top when its down.

As I don't have a top installed yet, I don't know if they'll interfere when the top is up, but they do not interfere with the frame.

This was not an inexpensive option.

I have the original seats, but they needed a complete rebuild. I opted to buy new instead, but ended up spending the same amount of money if I had completely rebuilt the old seats.

($280 per seat, $20 for the welding, hours of install/fabrication) But they are nice. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
 
I agree. Rebuilding the originals will cost about the same as installing a "new" set. I think the highback design of these ones is much better than the originals, and easier on the back.

They look good. Excellent job of modification.
If they clear the top frame there shuld be no problem with the top fabric.
Nobody will ever guess that they were out of a Jeep!
