resident at my house: Red Tail Hawk. We have 2 acres with many trees and a load of chipmonks, squriels, rabbits, mice, and even some crayfish (I don't know, but they make holes in the yard with mud around entrances and the long gone cat used to catch them).
So now we sit in the yard and watch the hawk hunt from 4 pm till dark. Thats when the resident owls take over. Don't see them but hear them when they announce a catch. All this in a very urban area.
The hawk was in a tree about 50' from where I was sitting and dove out of the tree to the ground about 30' in front of me. We checked each other out for about 2 minutes, told him he was welcome, and he then went on about his business.
Ain't nature grand.
