Hahahahaha: Yep, the way cars are configured now days unless you have the correct diagnostic equipment and know how to use it, it`s pretty much a crap shoot as to what the problem is.

WOO HOO!!!!!
I've been a licensed technician for well over 30 years, and now they bring out the magic tools.
Where can I get mine, my crystal ball is broken?

This has to be a cool novelty gift for the mechanic who has everything.

Kinda th' same thought, Dave, BUT: Take 'em into th' shop... when some punter brings a bagel in and asks what it could be that made it quit running, ROLL the proper die and proclaim it DISASTER on a chassis! Possibly $3K worth of WORK! I ~LOVE~ IT!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

Old movie quote: "I'm sorry to tell you sir, but you've got carbon on the valves..." /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Those things are great. I have a set on my shop desk that I keep for the "non customers" that just "want to pick your brain for a minute". Hey, time is money, so if you aren't spending money, I don't spend the time...

PERFECT!!!

Those were patented by Pedro back in 97 or 98.

Dave, Your crystal ball is broken too? Mine's been broke for years.(cheap pieces of crud) If you ever find a repair shop for them, let me know.
I think I need a set of those dice too. I could use them on the sales manager at our shop when he dosen't want to pay us to figure out a problem. ( Don't diag it.Just make it run)

Be patient. When Rego finds one on the net, he'll
set his original aside and tear into her. Pics,
verbiage, etc. Don't worry, just be patient.

Paul,

Pedro's junkyard mechanic misunderstood how to use
the dice.

He would roll the dice and then bugger up whatever
components came up.

Pedro-diagnostics-repairs-maintenance? hahahahahahahaha!!

My all-time favorite is when a call comes in and the caller describes some no-run problem, then asks: "What's wrong with it?!"

DrE: "Well, not sure. Put the car on the phone and I'll ask it."

...long dead-air silence...

Doc:
Are you a car-whisperer?

I've heard about you guys who are one with the machine!

I just tell people who don't want to pay, "Take two quarts of synthetic oil, and call back when the smoking quits."

Boy, there are days when I love my job. Now if there were no customers to get in the way.

Dave

Doc, Wait till you get someone who calls you and says," Auto Zone scanned my car and told me I have a P0300 (or insert any code there) What's wrong?".
HOW the goombahs am I supposed to know?!?!?!?!? Diden't I already tell ya, my crystal ball's on the fritz?!

BTW P0300 is "Random multiple misfire" but that's not the point. (and it still dosen't get you much further)
Used to be you could list all the DTCs of any car on one page. now there are literally thousands. many of which are manufacturer specific.
