Took the Alvis out today to check the cooling fan operation and I am pleased to say that it’s all worked as planned as I have had elec fan and thermostat issues which is ironic since it’s spent 10 years in Oz.
when moving it doesn’t need a fan, when stationary for any time the variable stat kicks in. If I wind this right up beyond the otter switch on temp the otter works so this will be a back up. The manual switch also works.
the other day I had the front jacked up to feel the playin the front wheels all very good. The brakes seem well balanced and effective too (cable operated drums all round) and I thought I would test the bearing tightness with the gentlest of spins and it kept going like a roulette wheel. Without any rocking play. Which I also consider good. No tight bearings and no binding shoes.

Yesterday was successful MOT day for the TR And the Alvis. ( the uk vehicle road worthy test - both are exempt but I like to have an expert cast an eye over and in the Alvis case check the last 20 years haven’t caused havoc)
the Alvis had to be created on the system manually Alvis wasn’t even on the drop down manufactured list.
and I got a good look underneath and it’s all very good. The mot man is into vintage and classics and he was impressed.

And as I have a memorial tour to honour my dad in Surrey to join in on at the end of the month ( he was a founder member of Guildford motor club) I tried my trailer out for size.
after about 10 attempts I managed - just - to fit it on. But the lettering on the sidewall of the tyres may be sacrificed
it’s just under the gross weight of the trailer but I have invested in 5 new hankook tyres to be on the safe side.
