...but there may be a compatability issue, I'm not sure.

Anyway, we're planning on (if it fits) switching my wire wheels, tires /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif and rear end for his Rostyles, hubs and rear end.
I have a 70, he has a 77.
Now I'm aware of height being a difference in the years, but is there anything else mechanically prohibiting the switch?

Two sets of new "U" bolts. You're gonna volunteer to do those front cotter pins again so soon?!?!

You da MAN, Barry! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Thanks Doc, I'll do the cotter pins every day for the rest of my life, rather than drive one mile on Chinese tires.

Ayup.

Is there a swap of rear brake bits? i.e. shoes, cylinders? What kind of fluid is in each system?

Devil's in th' details here...

Seems the catalogs don't really differentiate between the model years. A club member has a 79 he put wires on, I'll check with him next weekend.

Some things to be aware of:

=Shock arms - switch them also
=Rebound straps - switch them also
=Some brackets on the rear ends are different (such as for brake cables, etc.) - lay rear ends side by side, cut & weld
=Emergency brake cabbles - switch them also

Thanks Tony, the cutting and welding, no matter how minor, is a turn off, even if we are planning to switch rear ends.
I may just let this idea go, I need to spend my time getting the monster running and concentrating on the essentials.

Before you give up on the idea - slide up under both cars & look the differentials over to see if any brackets are different.....I'm remembering long time ago I switched a rear end & found that issue.....as I recall, I had to cut one off the late one & weld it on the early one.

Are these because of the 70 to 77 conversion or the wire to Rostyle conversion?

I have rostyles on my 74B and want to switch it to wires from my 74BGT.

They're because of going from a chrome bumper car to a rubber bumper car.

Except for the emergency brake cable - the wire wheel rear end uses a different cable than does the rostyle rear end.

I won't give up on it completely, I just ought to prioritize what's important in getting the car going first, then other stuff later. I was under the assumption that it would have been a straight rear end swap in a similar model year, wasn't sure about the RBs.
Once it's going, I'm sure It'll only expose more symptoms and more $.
Knowing the differences though (the donor is a running car, I'm sure he won't want to take it off the road in summer for a switch) perhaps winter would be a good time to attack this.

Sure - come on down & we'll pull one!

Alright, I've got to be in Paducah next month, just another couple of hours, I'll bring me spanners. I'll let you know closer to the time. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I'll make sure I've a good one before you head too far south!

Ah, Paducah...daughter graduated from Murray State just down the road!
