I finally have a real job...and you are invited!

I've been in the trucking business for more years than I care to remember. I've quit several times but have always gone back.

Now, after 4,000,000 miles or so, I HOPE I'm done for good.

I been offered, and have accepted, the public relations director job at Iola Old Car Show, Inc. I will be responsible for overseeing all media relations and publicity duties for the three events that are held at the show grounds in Iola, WI including the Old Car Show and the vintage Jap/Euro vintage motorcycle show.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with "Iola" it's a show that started out as a few guys getting together to show their cars at a Lion's Club chicken barbeque some 35 years ago and it has grown to a world class event with over 2000 show cars, a classic car auction and 4500 swap spaces.

One of the neater things that will be of interest to you fellas is the new "International Alley" that gives those of
us with Brit cars a special place to show our unique vehicles. John Gunnell, of Old Cars Weekly, started the "Alley" last year and it had over 50 participants. It's sure to grow in the future.

I'll also be working with the Wisconsin Auto Historians on picking the feature cars that will be the theme of future events. Could there be a "British" car theme in the future? Who knows?

Anyway, I start December 4th. I'm pretty stoked about this opportunity and it should be one of those jobs that is fun to do...blending my passion with a paycheck.

So mark your calenders now..."Iola" is always the second weekend on July....

Congratulations Rick. Should be exciting and more importantly a fun job.

Good for you, Tinkerman

Re: I finally have a real job...and you are invite

Congrats Rick-

I'm a former cheesehead and have been to the Iola show a couple of times, but that was a while back - sounds like its time for a road trip to check it out again.

Congratulations and good luck, Rick. I'm sure that you'll do a great job.

Re: I finally have a real job...and you are invite

I will look forward to meeting you at next years show!
This year I intend to drive my 6 there.
For those who have never heard of the show at Iola it is huge.
A friend and I went for the first time this year and we never got to see any cars! Spent the whole day going through the swap meet. They sure have got a lot of vendors! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Not much for our LBCs though. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Congrats on the job-- We go up to northern Wisconsin every year in July-- Where is Iola in case I can "creatively" take a swing by there on the way or back from my wife's family reunion.

Iola is conveniently hidden on WI 49 and WI 161...roughly halfway between Stevens Point (I-39) and Green Bay (US 41).

We are about a 2 1/2 hours drive north of Milwaukee...

Here's a satellite pic of our show grounds...F&W Publications (Old Cars Weekly) is in the upper left-hand corner. 90% of the rest of the property is show grounds and parking lots. We also have a large campground that isn't in the picture.

We'd love to see you there...
