I've been in the trucking business for more years than I care to remember. I've quit several times but have always gone back.
Now, after 4,000,000 miles or so, I HOPE I'm done for good.
I been offered, and have accepted, the public relations director job at Iola Old Car Show, Inc. I will be responsible for overseeing all media relations and publicity duties for the three events that are held at the show grounds in Iola, WI including the Old Car Show and the vintage Jap/Euro vintage motorcycle show.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with "Iola" it's a show that started out as a few guys getting together to show their cars at a Lion's Club chicken barbeque some 35 years ago and it has grown to a world class event with over 2000 show cars, a classic car auction and 4500 swap spaces.
One of the neater things that will be of interest to you fellas is the new "International Alley" that gives those of
us with Brit cars a special place to show our unique vehicles. John Gunnell, of Old Cars Weekly, started the "Alley" last year and it had over 50 participants. It's sure to grow in the future.
I'll also be working with the Wisconsin Auto Historians on picking the feature cars that will be the theme of future events. Could there be a "British" car theme in the future? Who knows?
Anyway, I start December 4th. I'm pretty stoked about this opportunity and it should be one of those jobs that is fun to do...blending my passion with a paycheck.
So mark your calenders now..."Iola" is always the second weekend on July....
