I felt like a kid in a hobby shop

Here are a few more pics from our recent trip to Yurrop. These are of the Sinsheim Museum which is about an hour from
Stuttgart. I've never seen a museum quite like it - the scale is enormous. There are planes, locomotives, tanks, rockets,
artillery pieces, cars, chainsaws, sewing machines, calliopes, motorcycles, boats, tractors, and other things I've forgotten. I felt like I'd been miniaturized and dropped into a hobby shop full of models. The amazing thing is that it has a similar sister museum nearby. I'll post a bunch of shots knowing that the last half will be links only - those still interested after the first few can click on 'em (or not). This really is just a small sample of what's there.

This gives an idea of the scale of the place.

The locomotive wheels are turning plus there're sound effects. There were more than one of these.

TU-144 again.

Wow! Almost easier to say what they don't have. Enjoy!

Oh my goodness. What a place....that BMW 507 looks wonderful. You must have enjoyed (I think my head would have been spinning).

Wow, too much stuff. I would definatly be overstimulated to the point I couldn't see anything.

What is that on the plane's engine, a prancing blindfolded cow in a tux?!?!?!

Boy, last thing I'd wanna meet inna dark alley is a blind prancing formal cow.

Just the thought frightens me. :smirk:

Blind prancing cow, now that's just a bunch of bull...

A pink Zundapp?! As if that car wasn't weird enough already?
What an amazing place! I think our local warplane museum could learn from them. open your exhibits to all mechanical things of that era. I love it!

I know why you're sighing. I remember you said your family owned one of those.

Wow!
And more than one Bugatti (with tire chains, even).
And a Lotus 7 behind it.
And all those planes.
And that <span style="font-weight: bold">cool stuff</span>!

I <span style="text-decoration: underline">have</span> to go there! :yesnod:

It's gotta make you wonder, how did they get all that stuff in there and how do they dust it all?

Neat place.

Neat place.

a few of the turboprops still work, they just run up the engines every few weeks.

There was no indication who owns it - some sort of foundation apparently.

The plane with the cow looks like a JU-52 but was actually Spanish-built under license and served in the Spanish air force.

I wondered about "dusting it", too. The place was spotless and I can't imagine how they keep it that way. They had lots of "classic" vacuum cleaners. Maybe...

The space shuttle is Russian, not one of ours.

Nial - you have a good memory.

What doesn't come through in the photos is the ambiance - many of the exhibits had sound effects and the overall effect was great - lots of music, mechanical noise, etc.

I agree w/ Banjo regarding the variety being a good thing. There was a lot for everyone - fashion & glamor stuff for the gals (including vintage beauty shop equipment), cool stuff for kids (including a huge slide used to exit one of the planes way up in the air and a plane you can control roll and pitch from a joystick on a balcony), and the obvious guystuff.

Found this on youtube. It's a "Car Crazy" episode featuring the place. I didn't watch it all but it looks interesting.
