Yesterday I was at my oldest son's girlfriends apartment working on her car (Alternator needs replacing). My Telluride was parked next to her car. For some reason, I sat my iPhone 12 Max Pro on the hood of my car as I didn't have a convenient pocket to put it in.

A while later, there was a bold that required a socket size I didn't have with me, so I jumped in the Telly and took off down the road to Autozone.

As soon as I pulled into Auto Zone, I realized I had put my phone on the hood of the Telly. I quickly bought the socket and high-tailed it back to the Apartment complex, hoping the phone might have fallen off right near where I was parked. No such luck - it was out in the middle of the street that ran in front of the apartments.

I saw it right away as I approached the apartment entrance. Luckily, I had a very good case and no cars had run over it, so it was none the worse for wear.

A friend of mine had a similar in. He put it on the roof of his car and forgot about it. When he couldn’t find his iPhone, he used the “find my” app and lo and behold it was in the middle of a major road. He drove over and recovered his phone unscathed.
You were lucky, buy a lotto tic!

We had a guy at work forget his laptop on the roof... start driving and proceed to drive over the laptop.. he wasn't quite as lucky as you.

Had something similar happen once with my first phone, and old Nokia. It did get ran over but other than scuffing the back, and making the bottom left corner of the screen black, it didn't do any serious damage.

I dropped my Nokia at a jobsite. When I finally figured out that's where it probably was, I went back and there it was - rained on, in the mud, run over, but it still worked.

Did you buy a lottery ticket?

I checked & added motor oil to my TR6,then went to a restaurant to meet up
with the Humboldt British Car Group for breakfast,& then go on a car run. While
returning on the same road from the restaurant,I noticed a shiny object on the road.
It was the oil cap, which I forgot to put bank on.It was still in perfect shape too.

Another time,I was towing an empty open trailer that our Realtor loaned us
to move with.I made it about three miles down the road.Upon entering Interstate-
581 after the cloverleaf, the trailer came off of the hitch, going all the way to the
center dividing wall.It was amazing in that there was no traffic,so I backed up,hooked
it up (securely this time),& continued on my journey.
Turned out that even though it looked like it was secured to the hitch,it was still
loose,so I was careful to re-check it after that.I also told our Realtor,& she had it taken
care of,& didn't charge me for that.

Happened to my brother, though the chains were still attached so it only bounced of the hitch. He was getting the trailer repair and was making conversation. Asked the repairman 'How often do you think this happens?" Guy's answer 'only once' :ROFLMAO:

When I was carrying mail, I found a cell phone on the main st. Picked it up and found more stuff on the street, then found a purse. Looked up contacts and dialed a man's number. Husband answered, I told him what I had. He started laughing. When he came to get phone and all other stuff was histerical. This was the third time this week she had put purse on top of car got in with her cup of coffee and left for work.

Back in the day, when I worked for SAIC, I got home from work one night and discovered I could not locate my "Day Planner." Back then, before the advent of smart phones, my entire professional world was in that day planner - contacts, calendar, meeting notes, to-do lists, everything! Losing it was a disaster! Later that night, I got a call from a man in town who had found my day planner in the street. Apparently, for some reason I had sat the planner on the roof of my car and forgot to retrieve it as I got in and drove away.

I drove to the man's home and retrieved the planner (I did give him a bit of cash for his trouble).

A few days ago I stopped and got gas in my pickup.
There was a White pickup at another pump. When I went
to get my change, the pickup was gone, but I found $25.00
laying bunched up on the ground.I turned it in to the attendant,
& hope he came back for it.

A long time ago I knew a guy with an old land yacht some time in the late '90s. For some odd reason he bolted a briefcase to the roof. One evening standing outside of a bar he noticed some kid on a BMX bike going back and forth "casing out" the briefcase. Eventually the kid took a high speed pass and grabbed the handle - which of course didn't move. Kid faceplanted himself into the side of the car.

In 2005 I was working in Boston. Dunkin Donuts had an advertising campaign going on. They glued a Dunkin Donuts coffee cup to the top of all the taxi cabs in the city. They were forced to end the advertising campaign since it was distracting drivers who were speeding up and blowing their horns to alert the driver that he left his “coffee” on the roof of his car.

Early in our marriage I was driving Mrs JP to work and left a mug on the car. Admitedly only a few blocks but it was still there with coffee in it when we arrived.

Disasters in threes…

In 1979, we lived in Simsbury, Connecticut. We had gone to Mexico on vacation, where en route home, we found out about the tornado that had struck north of Hartford, hitting the airport and nearby environs (Tom can talk about the air museum losses). When we got back, we found also that our Volvo 240, which was at a long-term parking outfit (“Ram’s”), was destroyed! A friend brought us home. We then used our other car, my TR3B, to retrieve our cat from the boarding place/vet, when they told us our cat had died while we were gone. Sigh. My wife was so distraught that she left her purse on the ragtop when we left, then screamed about a quarter of a mile down the road. We stopped, went back, found the purse and its contents in a ditch, gathered up everything we could and proceeded home. This was the days of store credit cards, so we never found the Lord and Taylor department store card, which gave us problems for years afterwards any time we used its replacement.
