380SL convertible top is on order, all new weatherstripping for top bows & top cover are on order...new windshield came in today.

...So, glass man went out today & totally destroyed my windshield getting it out - I mean little pieces. Great German adhesive since new!....then - & only then - did he (supposedly) notice the new windshield had a chip in it...

"We'll have to order a new one," guy tells my friend who owns the upholstery shop. "We'll be back Monday."

"Lemme explain." My friend, Norm said. "You guys don't know the owner of this car. He's super picky & prone to go off on you. He'll understand about the glass, that's not a problem as he's going out of town. What he won't understand is why his leather interior got ruined over the weekend when the rain storms roll through." (Even though he'll pull it back inside tonight.)

"Well, I guess we can install this glass until the other one gets here."

"I would, were it me."

"But, we didn't crack that weatherstripping around the top edge of the windshield post."

"I know, he's replacing all of it when we install the new top. Oh, he'll be out later. You better vacuum all that broken glass before he sees it."

What idiot couldn't see a huge chuck of glass chipped out of a new windshield? It was the first thing I saw! My thoughts are he hoped to cover it up with my chrome & when it wouldn't cover he went to Norm for advice.

Norm said he told him, "The guy's owned the car since Christ was a corporal. He ain't parting with it anytime soon. Were it me, I'd make sure nothing's damaged on it."

Then, Norm said he thinks they chipped the glass getting it off their truck.

Jeez!

At least you've got an honest guy looking out for you! My luck would've been to go pick it up (not noticing), and the first hot week out in the sun, that chip would've become a crack.

Another reason why I develop relationships with the guys who work on my car. Jerri & I go to Norm's for dinner, they come here, we go out...but Norm said he told the guy: "I've known Tony for almost 20 years. He lets me work on his cars but he always checks behind me. Don't think you can get away with anything on his car. Do it right."

hehee. Some people's kids just don't know what "working to a standard" means. Them "glass boyz" wouldn't want to work fer me twice either. "Hard to please." /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Same here. I think they would discover the meaning of "Divine retribution."
Good for Norm, Tony.
