I Can Retire!Well Sorta,Maybe.....

Called the union & found out that I'm eligible to retire.
I can't afford to quit - I'll have to work part-time (63-
- hours/month),but would like to find something else part-
-time.Any ideas?
I hope that this isn't like letting you people name our
first born child - then again,it could be interesting.

Re: I Can Retire!Well Sorta,Maybe.....

I retired two years ago, and YESSSSSSS I love it!
BUT ...... I am of the opinion that, IF you have to continue working to make ends meet, why retire from { In my case} a $45,000.00+ a year income only to go to work part time for less {Hourly}? I decided IF I can`t make ends meet I would stay where I was and try to QUICKLY pay everything off first.
I did get a part time job for a while, BUT NOT TO PAY BILLS! I did it to buy toys! {Big boy toys that is} A.T.V.`s 2ea. and a motorhome {perviously owned} and some OTHER things I WANTED!
I`m NOT wealthy mind ya! Nor do I have an extravagant retirement income. Having everything you own paid for make a great deal of difference as far as living off of a retirement income goes.
I could go get a reasonable paying job tommorow if I wanted to go back to Welding, But I don`t.
BUT .... to each his/her own! Some people like to work {Seems they have nothing better to do}
Myself, I like doing what I want, when I want, and with whom I want.
If you can retire and be comfortable about it. I highly recomend it.
You never know, you next boss may be a complete Asno de caballos.

Re-tire? I would recommend you going with Michelins.

Otherwise, that word is not in my vocabulary.

Same here: "Keep draggin' th' sled..."

Re: I Can Retire!Well Sorta,Maybe.....

RETIREMENT!! YEA!!

If you're 62, also start your Social Security.

Ebay selling is where lots of people I know make their extra money. You could do car parts.

Re: I Can Retire!Well Sorta,Maybe.....

I bailed two years ago, and have never regretted retiring. My wife retired the same day, and it has made life much better without the 90 hour work week. We stay busy, but also can travel and enjoy our remaining healthy years. But there was never any consideration of another job.

Re: I Can Retire!Well Sorta,Maybe.....

I took early at 56, 6 years ago and have never regretted a minute of it. I make adirondac/muskoka chairs and gnome doors on the side and don't sell many, most are for gifts and wedding presents. I do it because I enjoy it and like Kerry, it buys me things I want(not need) and I took social security at 60 and I figured it out that if I die at 65 I will at least have got some money back from the gov. lol

Re: I Can Retire!Well Sorta,Maybe.....

I retired 6 years ago and now I'm so busy doing things I love, I wouldn't have time to work. I did tell my wife once that I might go back to work for a while just to get a rest! Of course, that went over like a lead balloon. Thank goodness I wasn't serious about it.

Re: I Can Retire!Well Sorta,Maybe.....

Actually,I can make about $3000/year if I semi-retire.
I'd still work 63 hours a month.
It's just that I've been at the same job for 34 years,
& I think that it's time for a change.So if I get another
part-time job,it would only increase my income.

Re: I Can Retire!Well Sorta,Maybe.....

I agree, stick with the full time job. Although, if you go part time go with something related to a hobby or something you like to do. Otherwise it may result in calling out more than going in.

Understand the chairs but What's a Gnome door?

I have a minimum of 4 or maximum of 14 which whomever kills me first. Sounds like a prison term? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Retirement can go either way can't it?

Some people love it, others hate it. I think its all down to the person and what they love doing other than working.

You are quite right some people are workaholics and wouldn't know what to do if they retired. I know a couple of people like that, the problem is they never had any hobbies, and if you have an lbc then you have a hobby that can occasionally drive you crazy but in a refreshingly good way when everything goes right

I don't think this problem has anything to do with retirement. I heard it was a condition of old age.---Keoke- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif
