I bought a Roller

I expected the car to be quiet and smooth riding like my big 73 Thunderbird, but I was wrong, its even better. I have never even been in a Rolls before and driving one is amazing. It just feels like care was taken when assembling everything, all of the controls are smooth and take little effort to actuate. Even the gear lever takes the smallest of force to move, everything is just so thoughtful. Even though I have only had the car a few days I love driving it.

Something I should have found out before I bought it is where in the heck will I get parts should I need them??

hehehehe....

:yesnod:  :thirsty: :cryin:

Parts are readily available.....if your pockets are deep enough. As an example, ONE front brake hose - and I believe there are 2 per wheel? - is $1000 or more. Silver Shadows have the undisputed reputation for being maintenance nightmares. Fix them and they will serve you well, let even the smallest thing slide and $$$$$. I asked several shops about maintenance costs and across the board was told to plan on $750 - $1000/month. I checked the boards on the Rolls Royce Owners Club and found the same reports there too. Silver Shadows can be had for less than a big Healy, but they are a costly Mistress. And I SO want one!!! But I think my wishes may have been granted by an unexpected alternative in my 56 Mk1 Jag.....time will tell!

Dang-Dang-Dang!

I would have a cool picture like that one except...
I thought I'd have time to check in and get back to the parking lot before all the Bugatti guys left.

The Elva was parked between 5 of them.

(Road America 2 years ago at the lot next to Siebkens)

Doubt that will ever happen again :cryin:

Holy Moly, Steve, you really did it!

Should be a ton (or actually, about 3 tons!) of fun to maintain and play with, I think. If she's a driver and doesn't need lots of work, I think you'll love the car.

A friend of mine purchased a '73 Rolls awhile back from an estate sale, it was in perfect condition and well-maintained. He's put more than 20,000 mile on her and nary a serious problem. A few electrical gremlins, but he's been able to sort them out himself.

It's a remarkable machine, literally reeks of quality and craftsmanship. On the Interstate highway, it's in a class of its own. Smooth as silk, quiet, and powerful.

The king of cars, in my book.

Best of luck to you, let us know how she runs!

No the car is in perfect condition and has been well maintained, I got a big envelope of recent receipts and boxes of all original parts and extra fluids.

It even has the optional 24 Karat gold hood emblem!

Here is some more pictures:

I know where to get shocks for it at a decent price ('course PeterC sells a complete set of rebuild MG shocks for what they call a 'decent price' for 1 RR shock!!)

Really nice car! I am jealous! Say, what kind of CD case is that sticking out of the center console?? Why is it so thick and when did they start making them white??!!

Yes, yes, I know it's an 8-track! LOL

The car came with a whole file box full of 8-track tapes in the trunk! I'm not old enough to know who any of them are though...

 :cryin: :madder:  :frown: I'll help

DON'T DO IT!!!

The iggy on that car is FINE without adding any electronic wizardry.

Steve: Has the load leveling system remained intact and working?

...I almost hate to admit it, but I know that thing's systems and workings all too well.

The photo of Her B with the three "cousins" was almost an every day photo opp at our shop. The white car was one of our resto's. Other two were clients' Grocery Getters. We pro'lly saw over a dozen "regulars" there for years.

Rolls can supply about any part on the car, sometimes you may wait, but the thing will NOT become obsolete any time soon. They even supplied us with a gearset & clutch($$$) for a 1911 car.

Gorgeous car! So, did you cross the cheese curtain to go buy that baby? Those look suspiciously like Wisconsin collector plates to me.

So, are you going to tell us that you "stole" it now, and stoke our envy even more?

Congratulations!!

I am often surprised at how cheap Shadows are. I figure that they are like XJSs, only more so. If you get behind the curve on maintainence, you will be doomed. I think about buying one as a beater from time to time, but so far, have resisted the impulse. Still, nothing beats wilton and walnut for the daily commut

Yes everything on the car is in properly maintained and working condition except for the cruise control but who really needs that.

Make sure to keep a small bottle of Grey Pupon within easy reach. You have to be ready for the inevatable wiseguy.
Beautiful car. I'm jealous
