In the last 12 months I've had cancer and retinal detachment, radiation, four surgeries, another one next week, two cellar floods, and may have to sell my cars to cover expenses.

And I want another classic car. A 1956 Alfa Giulietta Spyder comes to mind.

I should be locked into a padded cell and given little white pills every hour, while being shown films of car wrecks and destitute people living in caves.

You're not going to find any help here, either of you. I'm in the process of selling a (paid for) perfectly functional Honda Fit -- admittedly currently undergoing deer-crash surgery -- so that I can pay for the 35 year old Toyota Land Cruiser I just bought to drive every day.

I went from having one old fun car and a reasonable amount of savings to having two old cars and rapidly dwindling savings... this after selling my second project (Tunebug) specifically because I didn't want two old cars.

We're a special bunch, that's for sure.

Not really. I like it, but I'm currently plotting how to get a pop-top VW bay-window camper van.

Gents, it's a disease that may have no cure, this car crazy affliction. I've had it since I was a teenager, and it does not wax or wane with the years.

I have it when I have a nice car to restore, and also when I don't have a car. It never leaves.

But thank goodness, it's a great "disease" to have, one that has put many a smile on my face over the decades.

I don't want a cure...
I have seen some prices on Westies that are through the roof. especially on the pre-68 split windows. but from what I've been finding on the web,realistically a mid 70s bay window can be had in excellent condition for around $5000. a fixer-upper for $500-1500. I'll probably wind up traveling pretty far to find one though.
You gotta get past the people who have bee watching Barret Jackson.

You're not sick. It's normal to want unique Japanese cars from the early 60's. Especially if they're Left hand drive.
