There's the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Greater Toronto East Regional on March 8-10, 2012 at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. If you've never been to one of these, I bet you'd love it.
I was at a FIRST Regional at Mississauga a few years back. Had a great time.
One of my favourite memories of that event was a young Caribbean/Canadian girl singing the US national anthem (after starting the event by singing "<span style="font-style: italic">Oh Canada</span>"). At one point, she stumbled on the words of the American song.....so the entire crowd joined in and gave her a roaring ovation afterwards.
The motto for FIRST Robotics is "Gracious Professionalism".
In junior high school (science project) I sent a hot air balloon up into the neighbors tree - where it caught on fire. I glued the balloon up out of large sheets of tissue paper, and had a balsa wood frame. A large bunch of alcohol soaked cotton heated it.
Their project is a bit more impressive, but I was only about 12 or so.
