I Actually Walked Away....

My '59 MGA was an airport hangar find...it had been sitting in an airport hangar behind the plane since 1971...took me forever to convince the owner to sell it to me...as we were towing it home behind my truck, I turned the key & popped the clutch - darn thing fired up!

It'll be the last car I restore & then I'm finished!

sounds a little outta your 'normal' buying strategy but you never know... a little P-type would be awfully fun to tool around in....

So why did you stop at the TD and lump em all as "T-types"??? I know they're as gutless as a midget but boy oh boy do they handle... I felt much safer driving a TD at 9/10ths than I ever have in the TR3.

Oh really, I can just see you washing and dusting, and hopeing for something to break.

Yep, everytime I drove through the airport, I'd stop and ask him about his Cessna, Piper TriPacer, & a dissassembled plane he had hanging from the wall - & ultimately I'd get around to "when you gonna do something about the MGA?" Never talked money...I think he finally just got tired - he called me one day to say come get the car that he'd sold everything except the Cessna (still didn't talk money - only told me what he wanted when I was standing in front of him)...& then one day the Cessna also disappeared & he cleared out & sold his hangar...but he was getting older and appeared to be closing up loose ends over the years I visited him....I still see him from time to time though.

*sigh*

I've heard about "flashbacks." Is there a "flashforward" or a "flash up-when"? That last (post) seems to have the foreshadowing effect on me... I'm beginning to ~hate~ "time"...

Next she's gonna wanna to borrow th' keys to th' TR-goddarn-3.

Don't blink, man... it'll happen so fast you'll get dizzy from the impact.

Yeah, Doc - something just told me to keep going by to visit with the old guy...if I hadn't, no telling where the MGA would've ended up.

I'll tell ya where: S-C-R-A-P!!!!

I tried to rescue a Lotus Cortina MkI from the crusher one time and was told in no uncertain terms that the thing was gonna be smushed and I needed to get off the property.... sad bit is: the maroons at the scrapyard were likely to have been paid $20 for the material it would yield and I'd offered hundreds... Idiots. One grenade is too many, a thousand ain't enuff.

indeed...

and I'm a relative youngster....

my baby girl is turning 5 years old this month and _I'm_ wondering where all the time went...

*sigh*

[/ QUOTE ]Wait till your baby girl turns 26 (like mine just did)then talk to me about time. If I'm still around. *sigh*

Ha, mines 40.

I wonder, maybe you should have talked to the organ-grinder and not the monkeys....

Sometimes I find the hired help aren't particularly interested in being helpful... then again, some organ-grinders aren't either.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

(Freudian slip time: I'd initially typed morgan-grinders /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif ; no, I don't subconsciously think they should be crushed, I consciously think /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif)

Oh, I did. Gave me a song-and-dance number about titles and legality. The whole lot were mouth-breathers. Lazy and not interested in deviation from established routine. Especially not interested in putting effort into an old box of a "ferrin" car. Wouldn't even let me pull the taillamps out. "Insurance regulations." Scrap wallahs. *PTUI!*

Talk about offers....... My 7 year old neighbor boy wanted to have one of my go carts if I didn't want them all.... I've currently have 2 midgets and 3 MGBs in different steps of restoration......

dyoung1550...

And your point is???? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

DrEntropy....

What, pray tell, is a mouth-breather??? I can not say that I have ever run across that particular pejorative before.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

That would be Cleetus, the slack jawed yokel!!

Jesse,

Thanks for the clarification... I will now use this perjorative with reckless abandon!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
