Re: hubcap ID? "Ace Mercury"?

Looks like an ace cap to me. They are very, very rare these days. They were an aftermarket item.

Re: hubcap ID? "Ace Mercury"?

Yep, an old Ace...if you can't find the other 3, clean it up & make a killing on ebay!

Re: hubcap ID? "Ace Mercury"?

The MGB Driver of NAMGBR had a feature on wheels and hubcaps a couple of years ago. I'll try to find the issue and post. The Mercury Ace was one of the caps highlighted. I've seen a couple of early MGBs with these caps...and they are truly SHARP!

Did you get one cap, or a complete set?

I think the last set I saw go on E-Bay sold at $500 OR SO.

Re: hubcap ID? "Ace Mercury"?

Just got the one. Geez, was gonna hang this thing on my office wall, but maybe I'll throw it on ebay instead.....

Re: hubcap ID? "Ace Mercury"?

Personally, I would use it for wall art....just for the "neat factor".

Re: hubcap ID? "Ace Mercury"?

Me too. Gotta love the little slotted louvres on it.

Re: hubcap ID? "Ace Mercury"?

Because of the louvers, did they make a right and left.

The NAMGBR article is here:

https://www.mgcars.org.uk/namgbr/article3.htm

Saw a 3-pack of the 13"ers on eBay maybe a yr. ago.
Don't think they sold.

I believe there is a pic of a B with them on in David Knowles' MGB book. Period pics of them installed are pretty rare. Probably rarer than the hub caps themselves.

A little fussy, but typical for the time.

Re: hubcap ID? "Ace Mercury"?

I've seen Rich Wagner's (the author of the article) Iris Blue MGB with these hubcaps installed. They are sharp.

Re: hubcap ID? "Ace Mercury"?

I threw it on ebay for anyone who's interested in seeing what it will fetch.... We'll see.

Re: hubcap ID? "Ace Mercury"?

There's a Sprite out here at the show with a set of them on it...really look neat.
