Hub re-install question... Grease collar position

Hi all.
I am re-installing my hubs onto my rebuilt front suspension and I can not remember nor find anywhere that tells which way the grease collar goes onto the stub axle assembly. Does the flat side go toward the Assembly, or the concaved side?
Thanks

Paul

Flat side always away from the grease.

Wait a minute!

Paul is asking, I think, about a collar that goes on an MGB (NOT on a Midget) that provides a surface for the seal to run on. Paul, it goes with the bevel against the stub axle casting. The bevel accommodates the chamfer of the junction of the axle spindle to the face of the swivel.

If he's asking about the oil seal itself, the rule of thumb should be, the open part and/or spring loaded part of the seal faces the liquid you want to retain. (The pressure being exerted on the lips to keep sealing)

Thanks Peter. Yes, the hub assembly for my GT. I finally called my LBC mechanic to confirm what I thought was correct, and he said as you did. He also told me that he gets about five B's a year in for front end work, and after taking the hubs apart, the spacer piece inside the hub is missing. He said he can never figure that one out.

By the way Peter. My Wife wants to know why the new shocks went on the GT and not on the '71 as I told her when I bought them. What should I tell her?

Can't tell from the smilie, but there is endless debate in MGB wisdom about the function of the spacer. Some feel it is required, others do not.

If that wrench isn't in the loop, I'd find another wrench.

Don't worry honey, I can get more where they came from?

Just trying to help!

If it's any help, when I need to get "additional" parts for the B, I use MG points. It was suggested by someone here to use the point system instead of dollars, a lot easier to digest. So far my wife thinks I've got 9000 MG points.

P.S. She's smarter than I think she is, so she prolly just smiles and shakes her head at me.
