I have had a very small, light Mistubishi alternator in mine for the last 10 years. It was simple to do, but I do not have any documentation for it handy.
 
I rebuilt the motor in that car, Daryl seems to have dropped off the edge of the earth ( hasn't been a member of the local British car club for two years now), might check on MGex, someone over there may have copied it.
