how to straighten fuel line?

Does anyone have a secret method for taking coiled fuel line and bending into a nice straight section? I'm using steel line both 1/4" and 5/16".

I used to roll it out gradually over a bigger diameter circle than the original roll, such as a tire. If you do this in a gradual manner, with probably two passes, you will avoid kinks and it will be nice and straight.

Have someone stand in front of the tire with one end of the roll and slowly feed it out while straightening along the way.

I bought a tubing bender from a fellow on eBay and he said that if you take a 24" (I think, sounds about right) pc of oak and then rout a groove the size of the tubing you are using it will straighten out your coil of tubing. You can route both sizes in the same pc of oak. I have not tried it yet because I'm not at that point in the restoration but I am going to use that method. Perhaps someone else has tried it.

Good luck, Tinkerman

yes, I've heard of the route a piece of wood method. i tried an improvise this evening that seems to work fairly well. lay out a piece of 2x6 flat on the floor say 3+ feet long, slowly roll the coil out and hold the released portion against the 2x6. if you work it slowly the coil will unroll pretty straight.

I just buy staight line to start with. It eliminates a lot of work.

Have to agree with Jeff. Fairly inexpensive at NAPA in various lengths. If the rolled is all you have the board method works pretty good though as well.
