How to set up an RSS feed

Is there someone who can help me do this? I am about to throw the computer somewhere in sheer frustration. I read and I read until I feel totally stupid and then close all the windows and go do something else.

A number of people I know have RSS searches on Kijiji for boats. My understanding is that you can search fairly specifically somehow - like Vauxhall or Multipla. Unfortunately, when I search "Vauxhall" I get no hits and therefore no RSS button on the bottom of the page. On the other hand if I search "Fiat" I get lots of hits (of things I am not interested in) but an RSS button on the bottom of the page.

All of this is barely relevant because I don't know what to do with the RSS button after I hit it. I tried two different RSS readers in iGoogle but, they only seemed to show preloaded feeds that I don't care about.

Did I mention I hate being made to feel stupid.

Simple words please - and I mean simple.

thanks guys (and for the opportunity to vent)

Hi J-P.

RSS ("RDF Site Summary") subscriptions are usually handled by your browser. And each browser (of course!) has a slightly different way of handling RSS.

I use FireFox. Many versions of FireFox simply let you bookmark an RSS feed. It becomes a "live" feed, so that whenever you click on the RSS bookmark you've saved, you see the current listing.

If you go to Kijiji and type in your search, and you get a positive hit, then just click the RSS button on the result page. Your browser should ask if you want to subscribe. Say yes. It may be that if there's no positive result from your search, there's nothing to "save", so you can't RSS subscribe.

Step one: what browser do you use?

Chrome

OK - step two.

Go to Kijiji and do a search.

When you get a result, click the orange RSS button under the search result.

More commonly referred to these days as "Really Simply Syndication."

OK got a page of text that appears to be every word in all the ads - what now?

So you got the search result, and then clicked the orange RSS symbol.

When you click the symbol, your browser should ask you if you want to save the RSS as "live bookmark".

Say yes.

Nope - just a screen of text

Well, you'll love this. Apparently Chrome doesn't have a built-in RSS feed feature. That's why you don't get the "save RSS as bookmark" (or whatever) choice.

So take a look at this:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/nlbjncdgjeocebhnmkbbbdekmmmcbfjd

It shows how to add an RSS tool to Chrome.

H.L. Mencken: "For every complex problem, there is an answer that is clear, simple - and wrong."

Onward through the fog!

seems to be working - I think, thanks!

Glad you got it working. Ain't computers fun!?
