How To Replace Vent Window Seals???

What is the best way to replace the vent window seals? Tried to search the forum, but did not find anything./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

Wish I had looked at this a little closer BEFORE placing my parts order. Thanks for the help as always.

Remove the inner panel, and the "armrest" above it. Inside the door you will see three fasteners (nuts: two outer long ones and a self-locking one in the center) under the wing window... the middle one (with the spring) is to be removed. Additionally you may want to remove the outer chrome piece covering the bottom front part: three screws, one in the center of the front-most part and one each on the outside and inside of the trim. Once the nut and spring (and two washers) are free, the wing frame can be "fiddled" out of the pivot piece midway up the front of the frame and removed from the assembly. Now you can remove the old seal, and replace the new one... reassembly is "reverse of the above proceedure."

HTH!

The outer ones I can readily get at. Sheet metal covers the one I need to get to. How did you the washers, spring, and nut back on? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif Also how did you keep from getting the parts lost when removing them? Have very little space to work with./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif

Thanks!!!

Getting the nut/washer/spring OFF is no problem... have a magnetic tool handy for fishin' pieces from inside the door. Reassembly takes some true fiddling, patience is the most indispensable tool in the box here. A bit of RTV on spring-washer-spring ahead of time can help a lot.

If you're talking about the FRAME to door seal, that's a whole 'nother vessel of eels. To get at that one you'll need to disassemble just about everything in the door first.

Invest in a good MGB restoration manual. You can find them in most automotive stores, such as Auto Zone, Pep Boys, book stores etc. You will get detailed instructions on how to do almost anything on your car. I have three, and they have been a life saver to me. Be careful taking out the vent window that you don't break the upper hinge. It's easy to do! PJ

THE book for most all MGB repair is "The Complete Official MGB" by Robert Bentley, Inc. Factory repair manual in nearly every way, with a number of good suppliments.

Thanks, I got the info I needed from another board. My son was in this weekend, so I did not tackle the project. Won't know how "tough" the job will be until I do.

Thanks again!!!

Actually, I was hoping someone had a shortcut, but then again, you know what they say about shortcuts!!!

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif Just a hand full of screws and a few nuts and bolts. Just looked like a big deal to me. Guess it was sort of like sky diving, once you step out of the plane not much to it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif It is just taking that first step out of a perfectly running airplane./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif
