how to party with new friends

Interesting story. Not that unusual from what I read to have ordinary soldiers surrendering to anyone they could in those waning days of the war. A book I read many years ago by another British pilot, Tommy Calnan, talked about how as he and a friend tried to reach the western lines after the Germans abandoned the prison camp he was kept in, they had an officer stop them and try to surrender his unit to them. and I've read that sort of thing became a flood during the final days, although SS units tended to fight or die.
