That's the question. Other than the Plinth which you'll see avalable, anyone have ideas or pictures?

Baleing wire and the grill. It has lots of nice little holes for the wire.
 
Is it required in your state to have one on the front.
When I got a collectible car license plate for one of my cars they only issued one and said it has to go on the back of the car.
 
I moved my front plate on my Midget to one side mouting it directly to the lower section of the front fender. You could easily do the same on a Bugeye. I made the bracket myself, 3/16" X 1" steel strap stock. Basically a mounting plate for the tag wide enough to pick up the standard tag mounting screws, a piece to space that out from the body about an inch, and then another strip curved to match the fender with a couple of mounting holes drilled in. Used 1/4" bolts to mount it to the fender. It appears to have held up well for about 9 years now with no signs of cracks in either the fender or mount. Put it under the seat, if you get pulled over put it up on the dash. Why trash up a pretty front end.

Guess you could make a couple of mounts bolting them to the front frames on a Bugeye. Use flat stock and twist as required.
 
I was thinking the same as Jack. Use the mounting holes for the sway bar, build a frame (If you want it centered) and then go out and 90 deg up to provide a backing for the license plate.
No holes in the body this way..requires a bit of fabrication, but nothing a weekend-warrior welder couldn't handle! Good luck
 
UGH!! Front license plate of any sort!
 
There are some prefab street-rod units that "auto hide", but they co$t a little.
 
NJ QQ tags do not require a front plate. But when I had a Bugeye with regular tags, and I had to have the front plate, I made a square "U" bracket out of some 1/2" or 3/4" angle iron and bolted it to the bumper mount holes in the frame.

I agree, Tony, but here in Utah (and some other states) they are are required. I've been ticketed before (for a truck I had) that didn't have a front plate.

Tunebug still has his front bumper anyways... I actually like them on Bugeyes. I'm probably in the minority, though. :smile:

Not really, they are just expensive, hard to find, and expensive to chrome so.... we run without them.

I have a 'glass bonnet, so I just drilled four holes into it under the grill and used two L brackets to attach the plate. I then moved from Jersey to Fl. and didn't need a front plate so rather than fill the holes I used them to install a British type plate (black with white #s)that reads "59 BUG I".

Thanks everyone for the ideas. I looked up the NJ QQ laws (because NO front plate is the best solution)

Historic vehicles
General inspections are not required for historic or collector vehicles. To be classified as a "historic vehicle" it must be:
* At least 25 years old
* Specially registered and display QQ plates (1945 and earlier models are required to display one plate on the rear of the vehicle. 1946 and newer models will be issued two plates and both plates must be displayed, 1 on the front and one on the back of the vehicle).


So, I'll have to use on of the ideas on this thread....thanks.

My state requires a front plate. I did not mount it and carry it with me.
Of course at any time the police can stop me so I am careful if I have any wine with dinner.
