How to keep your plastic windows clear?

Wipe all of your plastic windows with "Glycerin" from the drug store. They will look oily for about a day but will clear up. It will keep the plastic from yellowing. It will also hide scratches.

Now that's something I've never heard of before. It sounds good though.

Brasso works well on the stuff that starts on the edges. It polishes off the nasties, and will remove small scratches.
I like the glycerin trick. I'm gonna try that.

I've used scratchX on paint, but not on vinyl windows. Works ok on paint. Best Meguires paint wax is the gold class 3 stage system IMHO. Lots of work, but results are worth the effort! I also like the Meguires NXT wax. By itself it works great too - but not quite the same results as the Gold class stuff, and NXT works best on darker colors.

Not too sure i'd wax the windows though. Clean soft cloth, and mild soap (no windex, or dishwashing soap) for the plastic windows... AND DON'T PARK UNDER TREES!

I wax the plastic window every once and awhile...In some extreme cases(where you can't see through the thing) I've used polishing compound and then wax to remove the yellow...doesn't help with scratches though...I think I'll give the Glycerin a try.

There is some stuff, USAF uses it to polish scratches out of fighter windows. No clue what it is called though.

Yeah, they're called "Airman". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/patriot.gif

heehee... I've seen a few of those!

...and keep it clean. I don't know how many cheap GM and Ford convertibles I've seen driving around covered with a 1/4 inch of filth and road-dirt. Washing at least once a week is a good rule to follow... unless someone starts to notice you smelling bad, then once a day /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the glycerin tip. I'm going home to try that today.

Glycerin is also a fair treatment for rubber seals, gaskets and such.

Can you buy just straight 'glycerin' or is it called something else?

Hmmm, you could put a catch pan under the load of 20 year old dynamite you never used.... Or maybe buy lot's of heart pills... Or.... Ah nevermind... I don't know where you can get glycerin these days. I'm interested in the ~real~ answer though.

Most drug stores. Clear liquid in a plastic bottle. Onna shelf.

Pro'lly says "Glycerine" on th' label, too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Years ago we used to be able to buy silver nitrate sticks at the drug store.
(They look like big matches)

We also bought glycerol.

Then we found some fine sawdust & battery acid.

Then we had fun!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Sugar, and saltpieter here.... mix 50/50, and cook it outside on the grille (or coleman stove) until it was starting to carmelize (in an aluminum pie tin).... Sometimes went up on it's own from the grille flames. Cool stuff... burns slow, but in a container - whewwwwwww!

We used it to re-fill estes rocket motors... not as much thrust as the originals, but lots of fun, and would still carry a rocket a couple hundred feet in the air. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'll go out on a limb here and surmise it'll get rid of a fogged plastic window problem in no time as well, huh? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif
