How to find TDC

I am wondering how to find top dead center. I think the markings on my crankshaft pulley are off. There's the original riming line which I assume is supposed to be TDC. However the previous owner had painted a new TDC line it looks like. There's a solid line painted in yellow to the right of the original mark(looking from front of engine) and then a couple of yellow dots after that. I would like to line up my rotor so that it points to cylinder #1 when that clyinder is at TDC. Then I can see if the yellow line or the original line is correct. Hope I made sense as to what I am asking. I have a test lite so all I need to know is how to find TDC for #1. Thanks

Assuming the head is still on... I think a hot rod shop will have a gadget that inserts thru a spark plug hole that will allow you to determine TDC (stops the piston -- once each way, you mark the spots on the pulley -- halfway between is TDC). Also possible to make your own from an old spark plug.

But if you suspect that the mark on there might be right, just looking at the valves may be good enough to tell you that.
