How to find out the year of a Austin Healey

Probably more than one way. Anderson & Moment's Restoration Guide will provide what you want. British Motor Heritage certificate will be the most authoritave. Quickest way is to post the serial number here, and someone (probably Keoke) will have an answer for you right away.

Here are the numbers:

Car one HBJ827209 I found this in a barn. Body 3182BJ8 71852?

Car two HBJ829468 I found this in a field. Body 3198BJ8 71348?

Same Farm. And boy do they have a story behind them. The guy was a AX murder.

I think they are both 64’s. the first being a phase 1 and the second a phase 2.

Robert,

From Clausager's book, the following production changes were noted:

BJ8/26705 May 64 - Phase II model introduced

BJ8/28225 Aug 64 - Fuel pump sepcification upgraded to AUF301

BJ8/31336 (approx) Mar 65 - Separate amber front/rear indicators and rear reflectors on brackets to bumper.

If you contact Steve Byers, he runs the BJ8 registry and could probably pin point the date based on the 5000+ cars in the registry. I'm sure he would want to add your cars to the list <sbyers@ec.rr.com> or:

wow, sounds like you should elaborate on the ax murderer story here. def a change from the race history of a car... lol

If you've got titles or other acceptable proof of ownership, why not get BMHT certificates? That will give you a decent amount of info, including year if manufacture, the correct body number to vehicle number, engine number, accessories, etc.

Steve can also tell you where the sister cars are if there listed, not very useful, but kinda fun to know. So all we need to get a bargin is find a Healey loving ax murderer?? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/sick.gif

In fairness to Editor Reid, would this subject belong in a different thread? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif oh, I don't know, he could always just ax for it back...

He didn't murder the cars with a axe did he ? If so, death penalty !

What .. for a chopped Healey?

This dude was about 50 years old. He was normal until the divorced and became one of those religious nuts. Long story short.

His ex wife was the costume designer for the Titanic movie and he killed her and her mother with a hatch and was looking for the ex wife's boy friend. He was convicted and got the death sentence. On death row he hung his self before they got a chance to do him in.

So I think that I should just take the cars to the junk yard and forget doing anything to them. They may be haunted.

No you don't have to be so drastic. While I think it is not in your best interests to keep the cars. You can still have them shipped to me and I will have them Blessed.---Keoke- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif

Hi Bob,
That’s an odd story, when was this supposed to have occurred? I vaguely know the costume designer, we both worked on the movies Hoffa and Transformers, which just finished shooting this last October.
