Trying to take the PO installed fan off to install a new radiator...

I think those fasteners are 1x use items. I'd use a cut off wheel in a dremel and cut the stem flush at the button head. That should get the internal ratchet and I'd guess it will fall part.

press the fastner compressing the spring allowing the srew part to protrude more from the other side and simply unscrew the black plastic ring, they should only be finger tight.but there are holes in them where you can put a circlip plier in to turn it

I used diagonal cutters to snip through the stem between the coils of the spring. Possibly those do unscrew as mikespain says, but mine were also from Hayden, and did not.

Replacements should be readily available from any place that carries Hayden products. ISTR the kit cost me about 5 USD but that was a few years ago.

Cut the plastic stems off with a pair of side cutters. Some will screw off and some won't. Advanced Auto sells new ones and their not that expensive. I supposed other auto suppliers sell them also.

It was 18 years ago, that I installed a 12" Kenlowe fan as a pusher in front of the radiator in my 1958 TR3A. The fan came with 4 long cad plated studs and plastic spin-on "nuts" like those shown in the top photo above. I thought that this was a bit of Mickey Mouse engineering to fit these between the fins, so I fabricated a bracket which attaches to the side frames of my radiator.

Thanks guys - I compressed the spring and just cut them off. No way to unscrew them unfortunately, which is what I was hoping to do, but oh well.

With that out of the way no more excuses on rust proofing the front inner section of the car now....
