How NOT to move a Bugeye to storage

So this is what happens when you ask your 8+ month pregnant wife for help in loading the Bugeye on to a car hauler. Don't get me wrong - I love her and all and totally appreciate how hard being pregnant must be, but...

"Looks good honey - just like that....keep going..."

Argh!!!

(The hauler is wide enough. I've moved it like this twice now without a problem)

Ouch. Hope you were able to get it back on with minimal damage done. No kids here yet, so haven't had the experience of a pregnant wife yet. Maybe it does something to their eyesight... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Yips......How did everyting turn out?....Any damage? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Ok, someone has to ask, Is the a picture of your 8+ month pregnant wife getting in - or even better, getting out of a Sprite? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

i have been moving my bugeye around like that (uhaul trailer) many times over the last several months...sometimes even loading it myself by starting with a little speed before the ramps...and I have almost done exactly what you ended up doing (sorry you were the one)no less than 4 times.

the questions are, of course: how did you get it out and how much damage??

For the record - my wife was nowhere near the car when this happened. She was acting as a guide to make sure I was centered.

We ended up jacking the front of her up by the cross member and nudging her over to the driver side hauler rail. The tire caught just enough that when we rolled it forward it held.

Of course the rear tires were all goofy then so we had to center those as well.

All ended up well, although to make matters that much more perfect as I was hauling the car to the DESERT for storage so she'd be dry and in a low moisture environment it POURED rain. That I would have missed without the extra couple hours of fixing the initial screw up.

Wife and I made up - I treated her to a nice dinner in Palm Springs and laughed about it.

All is well and the Bugeye is safe.

We not going to find this Bugeye in storage 20 years from now are we?

Be glad you don't have my trailer, the slicks are as wide as the beams. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
I've messed up before like that before, crushing the new exhaust pipe is not a fun thing to do.

Glad you got it back on without too much damage. For reference, I have been renting the 6' x 12' open trailer from Uhaul the last few times and it is really easy to load and cheaper to rent. You can't get the door open so you need to push it on and you need to be craetive with the tie down since it doesn't have the wheel straps but it is still easier in my opinion.

Chris I think we need trailors.

Hopefully she'll only be in storage for a couple of years. I didn't want her exposed to the elements and the desert is tough on rubber, but excellent for everything else.

I used a u-haul trailer like that when I picked mine up too. Just barely fit. I was very paranoid all the way home, glancing in the rear view mirror more than wacthing the road going home fearing it was going to jump out of the tracks. One wheel fit in the track and the other side resting on the lip! When I drove it off I used a 3/4" piece of plywood to make sure she didn't fall through the opening.

Every man needs at least 1 pickup & 1 trailer...but the more, the better!
