How not to break in an engine....

I clearly had too much fun at autocross this weekend, that little car ran wonderfully, my first time doing so. The midget is back in the garage now with nothing more than a couple of drips from the diff.

MG Midget Autocross

I had a lot of fun, am hooked, but I won't be using that stock Midget, I'll work up the BGT instead, but boy, that car proved it's worth run after run, worst for acceleration, best for handling.

Of course it was fun, of course it was faster than most other stuff. After all that's what it was designed for.

Now practice smoothness and and, full on the gas or full off the gass. A high speed autocross is no place for half way measures.

Worst for acceleration, gesh, the big trick is to only have to get it to speed one time then carry that speed all the way, hard on or hard off.

Hehe, sorry, the video was more than super. I was there.

Miss Agatha would like that.

Great video. Congrats on beating the Porsche too.

That run was my smoothest Jack, I'm certain I can knock 5 seconds plus off that with further practice. Once I knew I (repeatedly) got better times than the 911, there was nothing more I could ask my car to do.
I love my Midget.

Out of curiosity, why do you want to cross the BGT instead of the Midget.

The Midget has been pretty much rebuilt, so I don't really want to undo all that work, and remains stock. The BGT has been sitting until I decided how to go about rebuilding it with good autocrossing requirements.
With it in bits it would be just easier to build that around suspension and acceleration. With an 1800 motor (although heavier), I can get the acceleration I'm looking for, specially with some mods.

Good to hear you had fun Barry. The video was good, it was almost like being in the car with you. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

Don't you just know that the guy with the 911 was upset a bit. hehe. Actually, a spridget does those wide open autocroses quite well.

If someone with a Bugeye shows up, you are gona have real problems if he is on the game and the car is worth driveing.

He was as new to this as I was, the difference being, he had a couple of hundred HPs to control whereas I could just drive how the car was comfortable.
Learning to autocross in a high performance supercar or an old 4-banger? It won't be long until he's 20 seconds faster than me, so I'll enjoy it while I can!

Re: How not to break in an engine....at Autocross.

I think not, you should be able to beat him easly anytime. Autocross is all about control and cornering. You got the right car.

Don't know how many times I have gotten best time of the day against all commers and with 44 HP.

Baz, check out the racing forum, I got just what you need for that acceleration problem /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
