Regardless of what the law allows, just thinking about what makes something the original object. Wondered about that from a "what if" viewpoint for a long time.
 
In the UK it is leagle to reshell a car,
If the shell is a brand new manufactured shell be it the original manufacturer shell or a heritage shell
then it will have no chassis numbers asigned to it, then it will maintain the original car identification as long as you have a reciept
to prove the new shells origin.
If a second hand shell is used it will have a chassis number already asigned to it and your car will become that car and assume that cars ID,
If a second hand shell is used but has no visible identifying chassis numbers but has been purchased from a legitimate car dismantler,
then it will be deemed in the eyes of the law as a bitsa car or kit car and will have to go through all the satisfying test a kit car would and a new chassis number and a Q registration will be issued.
So if Ferrari builds a brand new shell it can use its original chassis number. but how much of the original car will be put back into that shell,

Did Boyd Coddington not come unstuck where the custom cars he was creating were more new than old ?

That gets into a real can of worms regarding reshelled
Lotus Cortinas too.
 
I couldn't find it on the google but, there are calculations in the concours world of what makes a car authentic. I strongly recall a situation where two Ferraris? each having about the same percentage of parts from the original car are now both considered legit.
