How many "Bugeye / Frogeyes" are left in the world

Re: How many "Bugeye / Frogeyes" are left in the w

I've got two AN5s. One AN5L34502 (green)is unfortunately going to its great reward. It is completely rusted apart and almost broken in two.. Someone had put disc brakes on it so I am taking that for the MKII Sprite I have. It still had aluminum slot wheels and a rollbar in it. A lot of major parts(windshield, grill, rear end) are still good.I'm still breaking it down so it can go.
The other (white)is in better shape and it might be salvagable to go back on the road. The tag on it is 1974. There will be a lot of welding with this one. It's still got original drum brakes but with a 1275 engine/ribcage transmission in it. The interesting thing with this one is a lot of old stickers on it like Gulf Travel Club, Commonwealth of Bahamas(?) and Superior Performance Parts.
PO that gave me these cars is a Triumph owner now but he had a BE when he was younger. The weird thing was that the bad one was up on a trailer under a shed. Th white one was just sitting out in the yard. Go figure!

Howdy Folks,

Well; Since no one volunteered to contact "Ray English"; I took it upon myself since I asked the question to begin with.

(1st) Ray is a "Super Nice" person who has a Passion for the MKIs as you already know. He currently has over (2000) registered cars in his archives. He has "3" rooms in his home dedicated to MKI memorabilia etc! I asked him to please send me pics. I`ll post them when I get them.

He "Thinks / Feels" that there are approx. (8000)MKIs left worldwide. Either in "Driver" or "Under Restoration" condition. He says; He has difficulty in getting info. from "Clubs" around the globe! He`s not looking for "Personal" info. just your "Chassis No." There is "NO FEE" to subscribe. The subscription cost is giving him your Chassis No. Let your Clubs know about him. He`s looking forward to hearing from "Everyone" out there that has a MKI.

In return for your Chassis #; He issues a magazine called "Marque One" that currently has 40 pages. He`s sending me a recent back issue for subscribing with my Chassis No. Please remember; "THIS IS FREE"!

Ray is retired & this is simply his hobby & passion. He has a very early MKI. AN5/3___ / Four digit Chassis #. He sent a pic of his car (Gorgeous by the Way) & I tried saving it but could`nt open it???

I`m awaiting Rays reply to how many MKIs he has registered in Canada & the US.

Hey Folks, Email him. You won`t "Upset" him! He`s looking forward to hearing from ea. and everyone here and from your respective Clubs. Remember, "MKI ONLY"!

Rays email address is: rayenglish@dodo.com.au

Have Fun People,

Russ

Hi Folks,

Here`s "RAY ENGLISH" car, I think?

I`m having a problem opening up his email attachments to myself so; This is a Test.

Regards, Russ

PS: This is Rays "Every Day Driver"!!!!!!

Hey, It worked!! Check out the "Fog Lights". They are actually mounted "Integral" into the body. Real Neat looking set-up in my opinion.

He`s waiting for all you "MKI" junkies out there to contact him!! Don`t be bashful.

Re: How many "Bugeye / Frogeyes" are left in the w

As Russ stated above, you basically have to get the best number you can from club lists and registries, then make an assumption as to how many are not on the list or what percentage of survivors the list represents.

DMVs of the various states might be able to help, but there are problems there as well, federal law prohibits disclosure of the information except for specific reasons, many people may have cars they do not currently have titles or registered, and lastly, there are also cars that stay in the DMV DB even though the car is long gone, I used to have limited access because of where I worked, and when I looked myself up cars I owned in the 70s which I knew were long gone were still listed in the Database.
