I rebuilt my carbs with the Moss kit and also bought new throttle shafts. I am a complete novice and completed them in 2 days. If you know what your doing, I think the job could be done in 2 hours. Any questions through your rebuild, email me at pleidigh@hotmail.com
Check the throttle shafts for wear, also check the carb body for wear around the throttle shafts. If they have too much wear you will need to have them bored and inserts installed. That's probably better done by a shop.
They are super easy to rebuild. Bobs tip is about the best one you can get for the ZS. Other than that make sure that you pay attention to the marks on the top and the body when you put the carb back together.
Make sure that you install new throtle shaft seals!
If yours are original they are dried out and useless! These seals will prevent a vacuum leak from around the throtle shafts and a lot of headaches later.
PO of my car didn't install them and the carbs were impossible to tune while sucking air around the shafts. Luckily he gave me all of the "spares" and I found the seals. Once installed my headache went away.
Good Luck! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I did mine and tho I'm generally useless with carbs, they came out great. But I never would have been able to do it without the well known writings of Nelson Riedel...I know I messed up his last name. Anyway, they are available by a link thru https://home.comcast.net/~v.navarrette/ . The Haynes carb book is useless in comparison. Good luck.
Steve
I rebuilt mine after trying (without success) to get a
couple of my mechanic friends to do it for me.
It was fairly easy, except for installing the diaphram TWICE!You need to align the tab with the slot.I guess mistakes like this keep my ego in check.
