How do I protect my nuts?

For Christmas, my wife had my lug nuts chrome plated. They were pretty rusty, but now look great- one of the few things that actually look good on my car. I found out quickly how fast a normal socket will leave a mark. Are there special lined sockets made that will not scratch or ruin a chrome surface? All I need is a 7/8" socket. Does anyone know who carries them and what they are called?

I have it in the back of my head that Snap On has something for that.

If not a few minutes with a mill and a peice of teflon should fix it. You'd have to use a larger socket, but....

Re: How do I protect my nuts?

What ever you do Kevin, don't use a 12 point socket on them! Only use a 6 point. PJ

Re: How do I protect my nuts?

I'm sorry, but I can't help myself, BUT I have been married for 40 years and my wife NEVER cared for my nuts the way your did for you. :jester:

PS, and as Basil Fawlty said, "she would have to sew them back on, first"

AH YES, I'll never forget the first time I had my lug nuts chromed. Couldn't drive for a week.
Of course that's cause my wheels were loose.

Re: How do I protect my nuts?

I agree Don -sick but helpful. Harbor Freight is having a sale this weekend, so the advice is helpful and timely.

Hey Don - We didn't ask the question. We only give the answers.

Can't argue with you there!

Re: How do I protect my nuts?

It's like my dad always said. "I don't provide answers, I provide solutions". I liked the way he thought, God bless him.
