how best to install cowl side panel

The driver side cowl side panel had been severly dented from the po not using door straps. The skin also has begun to rust out and may or may not involve the A-post. My question is what is the best way to remove it? It looks like its spot welded along the inside between the front fender and perhaps what I would call the patch panel. I am assuming some where along the top is the seam where it connects to the top panel cowl but exactly where? I haven't removed any paint yet and am wondering if I will need to remove the windshield to get to the seam line between the side cowl and top cowl.

I haven't done body work before but why not start, right? If anyone can give me some good pointers I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Not sure you will have to get to a seam at the top. Depends how much bad metal you find along the way. I think there has been a couple of posts discussing sill replacement about a year ago. If I remember there were some detailed pictures in the thread. Might be helpful.

Thor, there are patch panels available that only extend about 6" up from the bottom. If you only have to replace this section, it's a good way to go. Busting the panel at the upper seam is a pain.
